Alyssa Sheeres

Bio

Alyssa is an artist and designer based in Seattle. Her work explores giving common materials a new life in sculpture. She currently works as a fabricator for artist John Grade while studying Visual Communications and 3D Media at Seattle Pacific University.

Artist Statement

In my work, I explore mundane materials and draw attention to how we can shift our understanding of a substance, the spaces we occupy, and our relationship to our body. I do this by taking a material and accumulating it until it takes on a new life. However, it remains incomplete without human interaction, whether that’s someone wearing it or being engulfed by its form. My goal is to cause a shift in the viewer's mindset from always seeing just one way. I want to break down a mental blockade that then allows us to consider what else we’ve always accepted without questioning or exploring it.
