Guy Larson - The Warmth
The Warmth is a photo project that explores the loneliness of the dark and the anxiety that comes from opening up to others about the things that make you feel weak. Many people struggle with bringing their demons to light. Many of us have different fights that we think others won’t understand or can’t understand.
I’ve fought with anger issues, depression, anxiety, drug abuse, alcohol dependency, along with other issues relating to my mental health. It’s seeded from a lifetime of emotional manipulation at the hands of people I thought I could trust. Compounded by a poor transition back to a civilian life after almost a decade of training my mind for violence with no real support from the government other than a 2 week class that effectively did no more than inform me I would never be the same.
Since I found it, everyday I’ve used photography to find ways to cope with the things my brain can’t deal with. I’ve hidden my issues in the shadows, often being told to “man up” and handle myself. The light is warm, but, for now, the shadows are comfortable.
