The Seattle Pacific Art Department is pleased to present the short film “Table For One” from our 2021 Photography/Digital Media graduate Liz Albrecht. Here is Liz on her intentions for the film.
Once the pandemic hit back in 2020, nothing in our lives was certain. The only thing we all knew we would have to get used to was being alone. I chose to create a short film that followed people eating by themselves. I think that when we see others eating by themselves, we are saddened to see someone lonely. We think of eating alone as a negative thing. I wanted to show that even with the smallest of things, such as eating a meal, we might feel alone, but we actually aren't alone...and it isn't such a negative thing after all.

Liz Albrecht is a Seattle-based film editor who currently attends Seattle Pacific University working towards her B.A. in Photography/Digital Media. She will attend Chapman University in the Fall to earn her M.F.A. in Film Production, with an emphasis in editing. Additionally, she has attended and completed UCLA’s Summer Film Institute. She enjoys learning from others in the industry and hopes to become a motion picture editor in the future. She currently experiments with creating short films using different editing techniques and styles, as well as audio and sound mixing.
“While many believe that directors are the main creators behind films, it’s up to the editor to sort through hours of footage to piece together and create a blockbuster film. Many may find it insane to stare at a computer screen for hours sorting through footage, but that’s what I love and do best! I have experimented with different roles in film production such as screenwriting, directing, and cinematography. One of my favorite directors happens to be Spike Lee, who also played a role in every single part of his films, especially his earlier ones. Although I do this now with my short films, what I found best suits me is editing. My favorite thing to do is experiment with different styles of editing as well as audio. For me everything has to be perfect when it comes to editing and audio. I pay attention to every small detail because I want the work that I create to be amazing, even if you don’t notice the small details that I may change. I plan on using all of the experience and wisdom I learn from my professors from SPU, UCLA, and Chapman to create my own techniques and one day win an Academy Award for editing.”
